HYSTORICAL BACKGROUND
The born of Giulietta Spider was due to a famous and influent USA importer, Max Hoffman, which, sure of the good response of american market to the italian sport cars, in 1955 convincted Alfa Romeo company to realize an open version of the already known Giulietta, ordering 600 units.
The Alfa Romeo, for the occasion, made a real competition notice for the new car design, whe winner was Pininfarina, inspired from another of his masterpiece of the moment, the Lancia Aurelia B24 spider, redesigned and modified to match a smaller car.
Pininfarina designed a really fine and well balanced car, which would become a symbol of wealthy young people of the period between the 60's.
The price to buy this car wasn't exactly for everyone, if we think in 1957 the average salary for employees was about 55.000 lire per month and the Giulietta Spider cost about 2 millions and 398.000 lire (over 40 times).
Performances were brilliant, with a rear traction, the car coul get over 160 km/h thank to a 1290 cc engine with 65 hp.
Alfa made it also in the version "spider veloce", improved to 80 hp, able to reach 180 km/h speed.
