HYSTORICAL BACKGROUND
Originally called only Bentley "S", the S1 is an indisputable luxury car produced by Bentley Motors Limited from 1955 until 1959.
This car derives from the complete redesign of the Rolls Royce Silver Cloud, the brand's standard car from the immediate post-war period.
After the acquisition of the Bentley brand from the rival Rolls Royce Motors in the 1930s, the cars produced by their respective brands hardly had any difference between them; in this case the S1 differs from the twin Silver Cloud only from the shape of the front radiator grille and to the famous emblem above it, a winged B letter, opposed to the winged victory of Rolls.
The two cars shared both engines of 6900 cc and 4887 cc, were the last vehicles to be moved by descendants of the engine originally used in the Rolls-Royce Twenty from 1922 to 1929.
The standard transmission was a 4-speed automatic, while the manual was instead available as an option.
It was re-adapted and modified in the following years, giving life to the S2 and S3 versions, before being definitively replaced by the T series in the second half of the 1960s.
