HYSTORICAL BACKGROUND

The Lancia Appia has been produced by the Italian company since 1953 and over the next 10 years in which it remained in production many special versions were made by the best Italian coachbuilders, based on this model (luxury coupe, spyder-convertibles-gardeners - luxury lines).

The "Vignale" version was an interpretation of the famous Turin body founded by Alfredo Vignale in 1946.

After the birth of the III sedan series, even the Sport Appia derived from the original model had several updates, including a slight upgrade of the engine (from 53 to 54 hp).

In 1960 a double braking circuit was adopted and some changes were introduced to the lighting to adapt it to the new rules of the newborn Italian traffic law.

In the spring of the same year, other technical updates took over: a new engine head, a new manifold with separate supply lines, a new carburetor and some variations in the distribution.

Thanks to these last improvements, the power reached 60 HP and the maximum speed reached almost 150 km/h.

In May 1960, the weekly magazine of the Italian Automobile Club reported the news of the technical innovations concerning the Appia sport and the impressions collected in a short road test, which publicly praised the improvements and the remarkable performances in terms of drivability, comfort and brilliance.
